ASMR: Autonomous sensory meridian response. An experience characterized by a tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. ASMR signifies the subjective experience of “low-grade euphoria” characterized by “a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin”. It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli.
Top 5 Benefits of ASMR:
Sleep: Certain sounds can help you relax so much that it can calm your heart rate and help you sleep better.
Relaxation: Some sounds are just oddly satisfying to listen to because they just sound pleasing.
Calm Your Mind: When you focus on the sounds around you, it is possible to clear your mind of any problems you are having for a little while.
Tingles: The “feel good” tingle sensation that you can get on your scalp that travels up or down your spine.
Anxiety & Depression: Some sounds that I have found help me relax enough that it can release some of my anxiety that I am having.
I want to encourage everyone to at least try ASMR once. There is such a variety of triggers out there and a huge variety of asmrtists making youtube videos for their viewer’s enjoyment. Not every trigger is for everyone. I have to admit, some triggers are pretty wild/strange and they are not for me so I move on until I find one that I enjoy. Even my favorite asmrtists make some videos that I do not enjoy that much so I wait to see what they upload the next week. Do not be discouraged if you do not get the tingly feeling at first, you may just not have found your trigger yet, keep looking, there are tons to pick from.
